Integrating Reverse call into your blogs

December 15, 2008 by

Our new reverse call service for overseas Indians has us all excited. This service allows you to initiate a call from our web site, which will call you and the person you want to speak to and conference you. You can even initiate the call by dialing an access number if you are not online. This is useful in situations when making an outgoing call is expensive, but receiving one is not. A standard calling card is rendered useless due to the cost of dialing the access number, therefore the system calls you instead.

What is relevant to blog owners is that we intend to distribute this functionality as a widget. People will be able to come to your site and make calls. We will give them free promotional credit to try the service from your blog. If they sign up to use the service, we will pay a sign up commission to the blog owner. They can continue to use the service from your blog.

We will also launch an online advertising campaign in google etc. sending people from our target markets to your blog to try the service. That way your blog will get some publicity. The size of the campaign will be proportional to your score of votes and readership.

The service is designed to reduce the cost of calling India for traveling and overseas Indians, especially from countries where cost of calling India is high.

The advantages for a blog owner are as follows:

  1. Free publicity from the google campaign
  2. A sign up commission
  3. Recurring visits from the user to make calls, hopefully they will be reading your blog while the call is in progress!
  4. An even greater commission if he signs up for our VoIP service.
  5. A higher Linq rank. This is because we are able to detect readership with greater certainty when you install our widgets.

Visit our blogger tools page for more info on how to set up the widget in your blog.

New feature – Recent Blogs

November 10, 2008 by

Earlier it was difficult to find new blogs posted to / located by Linq. Since most new blogs have initially low vote count and rank, they tend to get lost in the crowd. Thus this new feature which lists recently added blogs on the front page with their rank.

The feature shows top 10 blogs that have been posted last week. These are ordered by rank so as to give readers a hint of the popularity of that blog. Additionally, there is a link ‘posts from this blog‘ which appears whenever reader moves the mouse cursor over the blog heading. This link displays posts of that blog from our database on the left pane ordered by Linq’s unique popularity algorithm.

Please send feedback about this new feature. Happy reading!

New feature in Linq – Blog collections

October 20, 2008 by

Linq has a very large collection of Indian blogs, with around 10000 posts added daily. Although we classify posts into 5 categories (Entertainment, Sports, Recipes, Indian Languages and General), it is sometimes difficult for our visitors to keep track of topics of their interest. ‘Blog collections’ is a feature which not only allows a user to create a collection of their favorite blogs, but also mark it ‘public’ so that other users can read it. Public collections are ranked and even given awards. Top ranked collections become categories and are displayed under the main categories on the front page.

Public blog collections

This feature gives users control over categorization of blogs on Linq. For example you can create a collection ‘Cricket’ which contains popular cricket blogs which you regularly follow, so that next time you or anyone else comes to Linq you do not have to search to find cricket news. Other examples may be a collection of blogs relating to architecture or relating to Chennai city, or even to Bandra suburb of Mumbai. Such user led categorization increases ability to discover new blogs, and give niche blogs a platform to be noticed.

Users can create blog collections after logging in to Linq. Collection creators retain full control over their collections. You could also create a private collection which will be visible only to you. Public collections need to be ranked before they are visible on the front page, which process may take up to a week. Apart from coming to the front page, public collections can also be distributed using the url<collection name>.

We hope such collections will become mini-communities led by the collection creator. If this feature proves popular, we will work on added functionality, such as allowing readers to subscribe to collections, allowing collection owners to customise the view of the collection, allowing search within a collection, allowing comments and user feedback related to a collection, stats relating to the collection, etc. Please tell us what other functionality you would like to have. Feedback, bugreports and queries are also very welcome.

Linq is a collection of Indian blogs listed in the order of popularity. It also classifies blogs on the basis of categories like sports, languages, recipes, entertainment etc.

There is a huge amount of indian blog content available on the internet but the problem is it is spread all across and it’s quite difficult to find it at one place. Linq is the answer to this problem.

We welcome your valuable feedback and inputs in shaping up this kid.
